In the latest of his many attempts to curb Texas' high property taxes, Republican Governor Greg Abbott wants to give the state's homeowners the power to weigh in on every hike. It's a move that critics warn could have a dramatic impact on the funding for public services in the Lone Star State.

One of the first things Governor Greg Abbott would like Texas lawmakers to focus on this session is cutting property taxes again. He named relief for property owners as an emergency item during his State of the State address and he specifically called for cuts totaling 10 billion dollars.

A bill to offer all homeowners in Wyoming a two-year, 50% reduction in property taxes has passed the state Senate.

Senate Bill 4 would increase the residence homestead exemption to $140,000, which would be the largest exemption in Texas history.
