Polls open Tuesday in Ward 2 for a runoff election that will decide who will fill a vacant seat on the Jackson City Council. The runoff is between Tina Clay and Marcus Cheatham. Clay was the clear frontrunner in the special election held earlier this month, receiving 43.3% of the vote. Cheatham received nearly 21% of the vote.

The former president, asked at a news conference in storm-damaged North Carolina if he had seen anything to suggest the election would be unfair, said, “I have not seen that.”
