"Joker: Folie Deux," the highly anticipated sequel, has set its digital release date just two weeks after struggling at the box office.

After collapsing in its opening weekend, and then being all but eviscerated in its sophomore frame, Joker: Folie Deux witnessed a further drop in revenue as it entered only its third week in theaters on the verge of a premature debut on digital streaming platforms.

Joker 2 is fast becoming 2024’s biggest box office flop, overtaking Borderlands while losing Warner Bros. a fortune.

The digital release of Joker 2 will be available on digital platforms as of 29 October, less than a month after the film’s opening in cinemas. In comparison, the original film was not available on streaming platforms until 2 months after its release.

Joker: Folie à Deux has set an unwanted record after a box office collapse. The DC blockbuster topped the box office during its opening weekend (October 4), but has since dropped into third place after posting a -81% freefall – the worst hold for a DC character movie in the franchise's history (via Variety ).

Folie a Deux" is not the only blockbuster-budgeted film to fall flat at the box office this year. Studios including Universal, Sony and Lionsgate have dropped hundreds of millions of dollars on franchise features and star-studded ensembles only to see ticket sales sputter.

The sequel was released in theaters on Oct. 4 and brings back Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker and Lady Gaga as his love interest, Harley Quinn.
