CONYERS, Ga. - Rockdale County is launching a federal lawsuit against BioLab, declaring the company a public nuisance after a massive fire at its Conyers plant sent plumes of chemicals into the air, causing air quality and health concerns, and forcing days of shelter-in-place and evacuation orders for residents.

The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners announced Monday that the county intends to file a federal lawsuit against BioLab and its parent company, KIK Consumer Products, after a chemical explosion

Rockdale County will slap BioLab with a lawsuit following a chemical release and fire that erupted last month at a facility in Conyers, Georgia. During a press conference on Monday morning, county commissioner Sherri Washington said that the county board of commissioners has engaged the firm Napoli Shkolnik to lodge a federal lawsuit.

Commissioners are seeking an injunction to shut down BioLab and damages for residents and businesses affected by the fire on Sept. 29.
