The Islamist fundamentalists in power are demanding that NGOs operating in the country get rid of their female staff. They are also ordering kitchen windows to be blocked to conceal their female occupants.

The Taliban’s tightening restrictions on women and NGOs have drawn widespread international condemnation. The latest decree targeting NGOs comes as Afghanistan remains dependent on humanitarian aid, with millions of Afghans facing food insecurity and other crises.

The United Nations has strongly condemned the Taliban's ban on Afghan women working for NGOs and threating organisations with forceful closure.

The Afghan Ministry of Economy on Sunday reiterated its call for all non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the country to cease employing women. In a statement, the ministry warned that any NGO that does not comply will have its activities suspended and its license revoked.
