WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration's U.S. Education Department said on Friday it dismissed 11 complaints related to book bans by local school districts that the department received during the Biden administration.

Sarah Jessica Parker expressed her deep concerns about the banning of books at the Sundance Film Festival, drawing attention to a new documentary that follows librarians in their fight against censorship.

The department said it would relinquish its role investigating schools that had received civil rights complaints after removing books dealing with sexual and racial identity.

President Trump’s Department of Education announced Friday that it will eliminate its so-called “book ban coordinator” position and dismiss numerous complaints related to the removal of “age-inappropriate” and “sexually explicit” literature from public schools.
