East Texans are without power as of 6:35 p.m. on Friday, after a winter storm blanketed many areas of northern East Texas with snow overnight. Winter Storm Advisories And Warming Centers For East Texas
While it remains cold for the next few days, several warming centers have been opened up across East Texas and will act as shelters for those needing to escape the elements. Warming centers are located: Tyler The Salvation Army, 633 N Broadway Ave, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One simple way the U.S. Department of Energy suggests is by opening curtains. That allows sunlight to naturally heat the home and closing them at night to reduce the chill from cold windows. Homeowners are encouraged to maintain heating systems.
