Officials say U.S. and Arab mediators made significant progress toward brokering a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war and the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip, but a deal has not been reached yet.

U.S., Qatari and Egyptian mediators shuttled between the Israeli and Hamas delegations in Doha on Tuesday, where officials said a deal to halt the war is near.

Mediators rushed on Wednesday to clinch a deal between Israel and Hamas on a cease-fire that would release hostages held in Gaza, after more than a year of devastating war that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians and destroyed much of the enclave.
