Greece’s conservative government on Wednesday nominated Parliament Speaker Constantine Tassoulas, a leading advocate for the return of disputed Parthenon sculptures from the British Museum, to become the country’s next president.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis nominated parliament speaker Constantine Tassoulas from his New Democracy party for the Greek presidency on Wednesday. President Katerina Sakellaropoulou's five-year term expires in March and a parliamentary vote for the largely ceremonial post must take place by mid-February.
