The highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, Ron Wyden of Oregon, on Friday sent a letter to Trump’s Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressing concern that “officials associated with Musk may have intended to access these payment systems to illegally withhold payments to any number of programs.”

Internal email lists and other documents and interviews provide the widest view so far of who is working in DOGE — and officials inside other agencies with Musk connections.

DOGE has drawn sharp scrutiny for seeking unfettered access to the internal data of agencies across the government.

A federal judge temporarily blocked Elon Musk’s government efficiency team from accessing some Treasury Department information and ordered the destruction of data they’ve already gathered in response to a lawsuit from a group of states.

Those records contain personal data such as Social Security and bank account numbers for millions of Americans.
