Social media giant Meta Platforms on Tuesday scrapped its U.S. fact-checking program and reduced curbs on discussions around contentious topics like immigration and gender identity, bowing to criticism from conservatives as Donald Trump prepares to take office as U.

In an apparent overture to the incoming Trump administration, Meta announced sweeping changes to its content moderation, including no more fact-checkers and a move to Texas.

Meta Platforms, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads, will stop using third-party fact checking on its US social media platforms. It will instead use a community notes system. The company says content moderation systems have "gone too far.
