The Detroit Lions haven't been successful in their previous playoff battles against Washington. They'll hope to flip that script Saturday night.

The Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders are set to meet for the fourth time in the playoffs during their respective franchise histories. Over the first three meetings, the Lions were unable to beat Washington.

Detroit's offense built on an impressive performance last season (fifth in scoring) to become the top-scoring team in the NFL. They're also good on a per-play basis, ranking third in the league in expected points added (EPA) per play on offense.

To begin, it took the Lions three years to make their first Super Bowl playoff appearance in 1970. That being said, the game ended in a 5-0 loss against the Dallas Cowboys. Their next appearances were in 1982 and 1983, but yet again found themselves in the loss column.

The Lions will face the Commanders in the Divisional Round after Washington upset the Bucs on Sunday. This marks the first time Detroit and Washington have met in the playoffs since January 2000. Washington has won all three playoff games between these two teams,
