Sources say the Y2V is a hatchback EV - the first EV model designed and developed locally to cater to the affordable end of the market, and production is expected to begin in late 2027 or early 2028.

Instead we have a very regular hatchback with a couple of petrol engines, one of which is fiendishly clever but still limited in its scope. And that's an increasingly tough sell these days.

But given how hilariously great the GR Corolla is, we think that a smaller, more powerful, mid-engined, all-wheel-drive hatchback assembled from similar bits would have to be that much better.
