U.S. President Joe Biden will ban new offshore oil and gas development along most U.S. coastlines, a decision President-elect Donald Trump, who has vowed to boost domestic energy production, may find difficult to reverse.

Donald Trump said he will work to immediately reverse President Biden's action to protect 625 million acres from offshore oil and gas drilling.

Biden’s orders would not affect large swaths of the Gulf of Mexico, where most U.S. offshore drilling occurs, but it would protect coastlines along California, Florida and other states from future drilling.

The ban on future oil and natural gas leasing would apply to the entire U.S. East Coast and other federal waters.
