Nintendo is caught between its eight-year-old Switch console and the next-gen Switch 2 — a purgatory that usually hits sales.

Year-to-year Switch sales are down over 30%, with software sales also down 24%. Nintendo says this is due to the strong performance of two standout games in their prior fiscal year: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Wonder.

Nintendo has revised its hardware forecast down yet again as sales of the Switch and its games came in “below expectations.” For the first nine months of the current financial year, sales from Nintendo’s dedicated game console business decreased by 31.
