It’s another day, another #1 finish for Back in Action on Netflix’s Top 10 charts for movies. But this romantic action flick has a much bigger feat set in its sights.

There are plenty of new movies to watch this week across the biggest streaming services. Netflix, Prime Video and Max all have new offerings for subscribers, while on premium video-on-demand platforms, a couple of critically acclaimed flicks are making their debut.

By its standards, the streamer's lineup of film originals in January is surprisingly slight. There are still a few Netflix-exclusive movies worth recommending this month, though, and the service is making up for its slim pickings of originals with a batch of exciting streaming acquisitions that is practically bursting at the seams with modern classics from the past 30 years.

This month’s selection of movies includes an underseen rock opera, one of the best movies of the 2000s, a paranoid thriller about American misdeeds abroad, and a nice pre-Oscars catch-up on one of Timothée Chalamet’s best performances.
