Workers gathered outside Kaiser hospitals in San Diego and Los Angeles counties Monday morning, launching what is to be an “open-ended” strike of Kaiser mental health care workers throughout Southern California.

More than 2,000 unionized mental health workers in Southern California went on strike against Kaiser Permanente on Monday after the two sides failed to reach a new labor agreement.

The National Union of Healthcare Workers said nearly 2,400 mental health workers launched the job action after Kaiser Permanente management turned down their proposals.

More than 600 employees of Omni hotels in Boston returned to work Monday after a weeklong strike that ended with a new union contract, but hundreds more at Hilton hotels will remain on the picket lines.

The contract will increase hourly wages by $5 for employees who receive tips, and $10 for those who do not, incrementally between now and March 2028.
