Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which means federal employees and many other workers will have the day off. This year, the holiday honoring the life and legacy of the American civil rights icon also coincides with President-elect Donald Trump's Inauguration Day.

January 20, 2025, marks the annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “On this day of coinciding significance, during a time of perpetual American strife and division, let today serve as both a marker and reminder.

Here’s a look at what’s open and what’s closed on MLK Day 2024: Post office – Closed. No mail will be delivered on Jan. 20th. Post offices will be closed. National parks -Open with free admission on MLK Day.

Dr. King's innovative thinking helped pave the way for Black entrepreneurial success. By challenging what's possible, King created a new era.

It was first proposed four days after King's 1968 assassination outside a Memphis motel. It took 15 years until it became a federal holiday.

The City of Springfield will hold its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Flag Raising on Monday. The celebration will take place at noon inside of Springfield City Hall. Officer installations for the 2025 Greater Springfield NAAPC will also be recognized at the event. The flag raising is free and open to the public.

Mayor Andre Sayegh and local pastors will lead the event, which highlights Dr. King’s lasting legacy and his historical connection to Paterson. The ceremony will include a prayer for the nation ahead of the presidential inauguration.
