First-day hikes on New Year's Day have become a tradition around the country — a chance to fulfill two common New Year's resolutions — to get outdoors more often and to get some exercise. All the hikes recommend a few things: Bring water and snacks,

A dozen of Alabama’s state parks are participating in a nationwide initiative to get people outdoors to enjoy nature – as well as burn a few calories after eating all those holiday treats. The 12 parks are offering First Day Hikes “led by knowledgeable state park staff and volunteers.
