The NHL will host the 4 Nations Face-Off, an international tournament featuring Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States, from Feb. 12 to 20. The World Cup of Hockey is returning in 2028, setting the stage for the sport to get on a routine of international competitions with the world's best players every other year.

According to TSN insider Darren Dreger, the NHL and NHLPA “have advised the IIHF they intend on moving forward, at least for now, without IIHF involvement in the 2028 World Cup of Hockey.”
