A tropical depression could form in the Atlantic by the end of the week, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Monday night. According to the NHC, an area of low pressure in the central Atlantic was producing occasional showers and storms.

There is a 30% chance that the system will develop in the next two days and a 40% chance that it will develop within a week. A low-pressure system spotted Monday afternoon by forecasters is causing showers and thunderstorms over the southwestern Caribbean.

Heavy rain and gusty winds are expected for Puerto Rico, other Caribbean islands regardless of how this system develops.
