President Donald Trump put a month-long pause on his planned tariffs on Canadian imports. Earlier in the day, though, he added two new items to his long list of inaccurate complaints about Canada.

U.S. President Donald Trump falsely claimed on Monday that U.S. banks are not allowed to operate in Canada, suggesting that he has yet another bone to pick as a trade dispute unfolds between the two countries.

President Trump says Canada doesn’t allow U.S. banks to open or do business in the country. Data from the country’s banking supervisor indicates that at least three U.S. banks have operations in Canada.

Sources said President Trump was singling out Ottawa’s tougher approach to regulating its banking and financial sector.

Laurence Booth at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto said Trump was mistaken when it came to foreign banking in Canada. Booth said Canada’s federal Bank Act has for years regulated how Canadian and foreign banks are able to operate.

Donald Trump has been called out on another lie. Trump took to Truth Social to lambast one of the United States’ closest allies, writing that Canada “doesn’t even allow U.S. Banks to open or do business here.
