CHICAGO-- "MVP" chants bounced off the walls inside of a sold-out United Center, but it wasn't for any of the current Chicago Bulls players or the visiting New York Knicks. Fans were on their feet as Bulls legend and Chicago native Derrick Rose walked out of the home tunnel at halftime of the Bulls' 139-126 win over the Knicks Saturday night.

The Chicago Bulls announced today that Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey will be officially retired, making him the fifth Bulls player to receive this franchise honor. The Rose jersey retirement ceremony will be held during the next NBA season (2025-26), and details will be announced at a later date.

The Bulls celebrated the long and storied basketball career of Chicago native Derrick Rose on Saturday at the United Center. Rose retired in September after 15 NBA seasons.

Rose’s No. 1 will be the fifth Bulls player jersey to be retired, joining Jerry Sloan (No. 4), Bob Love (No. 10), Michael Jordan (No. 23) and Scottie Pippen (No. 33). The NBA retired Bill Russell’s jersey (No. 6) across the league after he passed away in 2022.

Rose returning to Chicago has been a huge deal since retiring last year, and now the former Bulls point guard has higher hopes from the organization. When talking to ESPN's Shams Charania, Rose revealed that he wants his jersey in the rafters of the United Center.

Rose will become the fifth Bulls player to receive the franchise honor during the ceremony that will be announced later.
