Thousands of Connecticut power outages have been reported Sunday as a winter storm brings snow and ice ahead of deep freeze and high winds.

With its combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, the winter storm that swept through Connecticut over the weekend left tens of thousands of homes and businesses without power as high winds and freezing temperatures continued to impact the state.

A winter storm will bring snow, ice and rain to Connecticut this weekend, starting Saturday afternoon, the weather service said.

The National Weather Service 's detailed forecast said that parts of Connecticut are set for snow this Thursday. Meteorologist David Stark said that southern Connecticut may see temperatures in the mid to upper 20's on Thursday.

A major winter storm is expected to pass to the south and east of Connecticut during the midweek period, mostly missing the state.

Connecticut will only see about an inch of snow Thursday, missing the brunt of a major winter storm moving across the United States this week, NWS says.
