King Charles will travel to Auschwitz later this month to attend an event marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp, Buckingham Palace has confirmed. The commemoration in Poland on 27 January will be the King's first overseas trip this year.

King Charles will become the first British monarch to visit Auschwitz when he travels to the former Nazi concentration camp later this month, he told guests at a memorial event yesterday. He revealed to Holocaust survivor Manfred Goldberg, 94: “I feel I must for the 80th anniversary. It’s so important.”
