President Trump fired two Democratic EEOC commissioners and an NLRB board member, hobbling two independent agencies that are tasked with enforcing worker protections.

In addition to Thakur, McHenry fired a former prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami, Anne McNamara. After prosecuting hundreds of cases in Miami, she joined the Justice Department in Washington and worked on Smith’s team in the documents case against Trump.

More than a dozen officials who worked on the criminal investigations into Donald Trump have been fired, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Trump has vowed to end the "weaponisation" of the Justice Department and has set about nominating and appointing allies to top posts in the department. Smith himself resigned from the Justice Department shortly before Trump took office, and both federal cases have effectively ended.
