The i5 10400 is probably the only CPU on intel 10th gen line up that i would actually buy if i was upgrading from my previous i5 6500. Because it is really good and it actually beats the AMD's famous best all rounder value R5 3600.

Nov 12, 2021 · You are kind of limited in your options being on a budget B460 board which could can create issues with the top of the line CPU's on that platform like the 10850k, 10900k, etc due to VRMs and power management on cheap motherboards and 10th gen being mediocre in general, and moving from a 10400 to say a 10600 isnt going to be a drastic change.

May 7, 2022 · Depends on how high of a frame rate you plan on needing in the future. 10400 should be fine if you aren't trying for high frame rates as consoles have the equivalent of 8 core 16 thread Zen 2 cores which are already faster than your CPU.

Maybe do some light 3D rendering too. I can't find any good benchmarks on how bad an i5-10400 would bottleneck a 4070Ti at 1440p and most of the benchmarks i've seen with it use CPUs that aren't anywhere close to the 10400 in performance.

Sep 16, 2022 · That's a little different than 10400 to 12400. The 3600 --> 10700K (using Passmark) is about a 13% single thread and 5% multithread performance boost. 10400 --> 12400 is a full 39% single thread, and 59% multithread upgrade.

Jun 21, 2022 · You get access to PCIE generation 4. You're getting a much better memory controller in the 11700f CPU for better RAM overclocking and stability. It has better data transfer rates across the board. Intel's Turbo boost technology was also improved for 11th gen which is nice for non K variants and much more but the list would be too long.
