Dec 18, 2006 · A Gary Reeder Ultimate .480 Ruger built on a BH frame requires slightly greater powder charges to reach the same velocities, but is throated differently and has strong 5 shot cylinder. Any of the loads listed will best .45-70 factory ammo performance. It is simply not necessary to hotrod the .480 Ruger cartridge.

Mar 25, 2005 · In you guy's expierence what bullet shoots best in any caliber. a Light weight cast or a heavy cast.In particular I am wonder about 30 caliber, 357 and 44 caliber.In my marlin 1894 128 gr jacketed bullets shoots extremly well. 158 gr doesn't shoot as well.What mbullet weight mold should I buy.Thanks for the advice in advance.

I converted that rifle, a Mark X, to 375 Whelen and bought a Remington Sendero in that caliber. Neither of the rifles shot the heavy weights with any accuracy, never tried the real light weights, but the 100 grain Speer did well.

Jan 25, 2017 · Years ago, I had a .44 Super Blackhawk. The hard cast bullets available commercially back then were dead soft and had lousy lube. They leaded terribly. I had to take up casting to get decent bullets. The alloy was harder, but the key was better lube and a profile that was closer to a RNFP then the Keith type that was the rage back then.

Dec 15, 2014 · IIRC, Lyman molds will deliver close to the desired weight if used with Lyman #2 alloy. The formula for Lyman #2 alloy is: 9 pounds of clip-on wheel weights plus 1 pound of 50/50 bar solder OR 4 pounds of Linotype, 1 pound 50/50 bar solder, and 5 pounds of pure lead e.g. stick-on wheel weights. Either formula makes up 10 pounds of alloy.

Jan 10, 2010 · Cast bullets of oven treated wheel weights (30-32 BHN) with gas checks have been successfully deployed in modern rifles at jacketed bullet speeds. As long as they are sized correctly I would expect one could approach 3000 fps without too many problems. 2800 fps would be about ideal for predator hunting, should have no problem with that.

May 25, 2004 · H110 or 2400 will push those heavy weights right along! 2400 is a bit dirtier. I don't worry about leading very much after I firelapped the 44. It used to lead bad, using softer bullets, right at the forcing cone to 1" inside the barrel. The only reason I cast those 250 gr gas check bullets is that I don't have a 270 gr wfn LBT style plain base ...

In the handgun section there is data to for bullets to 310 grs. Look at the data for Saeco #430 , 265 grains RF and you will be safe to use it with your 260 gr. bullets .

Oct 30, 2003 · Above about 1600 f.p.s. you will need to move to a harder alloy such as Lyman No. 2 unless you have a very smooth barrel. The Saeco #315 is a great bullet in the .30-30. ribbonstone said: Lyman #2 will work for loads to at least 1850fps, and often a bit more. The Lee 170gr. is a good all-around bullet.
