Leucophyllum frutescens is an evergreen shrub in the figwort family, Scrophulariaceae, native to the U.S. state of Texas, where it is the official "State Native Shrub of Texas", [2] and to the states of Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas in northern Mexico.

Texas sage is a low maintenance evergreen coastal shrub in the Scrophulariaceae family. It is a seasonal bloomer depending on changes in humidity to see the showy purple flowers. It works well as a hedge, foundation planting or in a container on a patio. Shrubs prefer low humidity but have excellent tolerance for drought and heat.

Chihuahuan Deserts, Edwards Plateau, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, Southern Texas Plains. Drought tolerant, little maintenance required. A grouping makes a good screen. Prune older shrubs if more fullness is desired. Susceptible to cotton root rot if kept too moist. Provide well drained soil. Do not fertilize and do not overwater.
